Farm Sanctuaries New Executive Director and CEO Announcement

I am delighted to share with you the exciting news that Farm Sanctuary has a new Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer in Kendra “Kera” Melrose. A longtime, dedicated farm animal advocate, Kera brings years of nonprofit leadership experience, serving most recently as Farm Sanctuary’s General Counsel.

I also want to thank Harry P. “Hank” Lynch, who has served as Executive Director and CEO for the past four years, a period of exciting growth and development for Farm Sanctuary for which we (and the animals) are grateful. Hank will step down from his role on Friday, April 13, with Kera seamlessly stepping in to the position on Monday, April 16.

Farm Sanctuary’s board of directors unanimously chose Kera as the organization’s new Executive Director and CEO, and I share their excitement about this decision. I admire Kera’s skill in leading teams, guiding strategy, fostering growth, and thinking innovatively and inclusively about how to help farm animals. The board noted that they “could not have found a better leader for the organization,” and I agree.

Kera’s expertise includes work as counsel at the PETA Foundation, and associate at the firms of Brune & Richard, where she managed teams and complex projects, and Latham & Watkins, where she litigated pro bono cases on behalf of animal protection groups. She received her A.B. from Princeton University and her J.D. from Columbia Law, where she co-founded the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, and where I first met her.

A lifelong animal lover and longtime vegan, Kera is passionate about Farm Sanctuary’s work rescuing farm animals and educating and advocating on their behalf. I’m thrilled to work with her as we continue our vital mission of protecting animals from cruelty, inspiring change in the way society views and treats them, and promoting compassionate vegan living in support of a kinder world for all.

This good work, powered by you, will help animals for years to come.

For the animals,

Gene Baur
Farm Sanctuary President and Co-founder
