Jane Goodall Institute Supports Captive Primate Safety Act [H.R. 2920]

URGENT PETITONS FOR

SENATOR CHRIS MURPHY

SENATOR RICHARD BLUMENTHAL

REPRESENTATIVE JOHN, B. LARSON

As someone who cares about chimpanzees and other endangered wildlife, I am urging all of you to end the trade of captive primates by sponsoring the Captive Primate Safety Act. This bill has already been introduced in the House of Representatives.

Inadequate lasw in the U.S. relating to the private ownership of prmates pose a serious threat to public safety and animal welfare.  The exotic pet trade has resulted in hundreds of human and primate injuries and hampered global primate conservation efforts.  This bill will expand the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981 to prohibit the importation, exportation, sale and purchase of all nonhuman primates like chimpanzees in interstate or foreign commerce.

I thank you in advance for reviewing the rivate trade of nonhuman primates with the intention to protect chimpanzees and other primates from harm and expolitation.
