On Friday January 2, 2015 I was on my way to do some errands and turned the corner onto View Street in Bristol when suddenly out of the corner of my eye I saw zipping by at a rather fast pace two small dogs, [Chihuahua’s]. Taking a closer look I noticed they were following each other and had no collars on which was a true formula for trouble.
I immediately pulled my car over to the side of the road and got out and went to the closest house to me and rang the door bell but no one answered. Just at that moment a car pulled up on the street with a man that had that look on his face like he was looking for something. I waved him down and asked him if he was looking for two small dogs? I saw his eyes light up as he got out of his car and said “yes those are my dogs they got away from me.” I said ” they are headed down View Street and stopped to pee on a pole but they must have gone into someone’s back yard. He got back into his car and made a U Turn and headed down View Street. My car was pointed in that direction and I got into my car and went ahead of him. He pulled over and started walking into peoples back yards to look for his dogs.
It was at that moment that I spotted both dogs in the back of a house just ahead. I yelled to this man telling him ” I see your dogs they are up ahead at that house”, as I pointed in that direction. He was grateful and started calling them.
One of the dogs heard his voice and was more than happy to see his owner walking down the sidewalk towards him. That little dogs eyes light up and was so happy to see his owner approaching.
I yelled to the man “they don’t have collars on” to which he answered “they are on the kitchen table”. He then added ” I went out to empty the garbage and they got out the door.” I said ” with dogs that small you should have their collars on all the time and if you back out of the door and put your foot in the door they wouldn’t be able to get past you.” He just listened as both owner and dog got closer to each other that little dog jumped into the arms of this man and started licking his face. The jubilation between the two was heartwarming.
The other little dog had been captured by the owner of that house and waved to this man to let him know ” I have your dog.” I said my goodbyes and went on my way. This is a happy ending to what could have been a terrible story.
So a lesson to be learned from this story is remember that you live in a household with animals that love to run and play. You will need to adjust your habits so that your animals don’t out wit you in their attempt to run and play and investigate the great outdoors without you.
Animals are very much like human children who don’t know the dangers of the outside world or cars. Animals that have homes love to play and run and are rather carefree if they are treated well.
The End of a Happy New Year Story.
